Wilfred Owen (1893-1918) and Rupert Brooke (1887-1915) both wrote poetry during the First World War, in which both men died. This book was issued with the poems of each poet printed back-to-back. The book is designed to be flipped on the short edge through 180 degrees. The poems of Brooke are printed on 4 pages and those of Owen on 11 pages; the first page of Owen is a quotation: My subject is war, and the pity of war. The poetry is in the pity
.
This back-to-back edition was published after a single volume edition of poems by Wilfred Owen. Carr reported that he had published six impressions of this small book. They may not be easy to tell apart because little publishing information is given inside back-to-back books.
