This was the first Dictionary published by Carr that was written by someone else. The author, A.J. Forrest, also compiled a Dictionary of Eponymous Places, which Carr published and Forrest's Dictionary of Eponymous Fictions in 1982 (ISBN 0950805408), which Mr Forrest self-published. Alex John Forrest was a journalist and author who was a special correspondent at the Nuremberg trials in 1946, according to the web site of his old school, Framlingham. He was the author of books on village cricket, Interpol and flint knapping.
Carr reported in the History of the QTP that he had published four impressions of the Dictionary of Eponymists, but seven have been seen or are assumed and are the second and third impressions, based on the fact that two revisions of the first edition are indicated. The later editions give the same reprint date of 1982, but differ in the colour of the paper used and the name of the printer, so were probably issued in the later 1980s. The printing plate for the cover is also shown below.
