Woman at Home

Hodder & Stoughton, Ltd., Paternoster Square, London

George Newnes, Ltd., 3 - 13, Southampton Street and Exeter Street, London

Woman at Home was advertised as Annie S. Swan's Magazine on every issue of the first series of this magazine, from October 1893 to July 1909, published by Hodder & Stoughton. Annie Swan was a very popular romantic novelist and short story writer. Blampied later designed dust jackets for several of her novels such as The Stepmother, The Woman's Part and Young Blood, all published by Hodder & Stoughton. The magazine was bought in 1909 by George Newnes and a second series was begun with new numbering from volume 1 in August 1909 to volume 43 in January 1931.

Three issues of the title pubished by Newnes contain original drawings by Blampied, in December 1911 and October and December 1912. These drawings were among Blampied's first commissions as an independent artist, with drawings for two other Newnes publications, The Strand and Wide World Magazine. But Blampied soon moved on to do more regular and more substantial work for The Sketch, The Ladies Field and Pearson's Magazine.
