David Whitelaw (1875-1970) was a British writer, editor and illustrator. This novel was first published in 1916 by Hodder & Stoughton, for whom Blampied also designed the jacket.
This title and The Happy Warrior were commissioned in a letter from Edwin Jack on 23rd April 1918:
Herewith we are sending you two volumes The Happy Warrior by A.S.M. Hutchinson and A Flutter in Kings by David Whitelaw. All that is wanted for these books is a circular design 6¾” in diameter. The surrounding framework is somewhat bold and printed in red. Kindly keep your drawings therefore as bold as possible so that the panel may stand out.
Edwin Jack acknowledged receipt of the designs on 29th May 1918 with which we are very much pleased
