Horace Wyatt (1865-1954) was the author of one other book, an alternative to Alice in Wonderland called Malice in Kulturland (London, 1914). During the Occupation he wrote the libretto for an opera called The Paladins or the Spell of the Sword and the Shield with music by Philip Larbalestier (who may have been the cousin of James, the source of the name of this web site). It was presented at the Opera House by the Jersey Green Room Club in October 1943. He was the father of Bob Wyatt, a well known cricketer.
The Introduction states that the book was written and illustrated in Jersey, during the Occupation. It takes the form of unsent letters. The verses were written by P.G. Larbalestier.
