Dedication: To Mr Belcher of Belcher's Mound who, in 1878, desirous of preserving his large family from taxation and education left these parts where he had trapped up and down the river - and moved on westwards. See: Belchers Ford in The Battle of Pollocks Crossing, page 25.
Notes: Text at the top of the map dates it: 'Drawn by an Englishman who lived there in 1938-39 and who claims a dispensation for error on the ground of time and distance, 1978'. The detail shows a copyright mark © next to a small oval image of St George, the patron saint of England, slaying the dragon. This is the only of Carr's map known to have the copyright symbol, probably as a small joke.
