The Bystander, 1919 - 1920

Blampied returned to London from Jersey in April 1919 and set about re-establishing himself as an artist for books and magazines and developing his reputation as an etcher, which had been in abeyance during the war. The price of The Bystander had doubled by 1920, but printing in more than one colour had become more common and most issues had a couple of drawings and perhaps a centre-fold drawing in a single colour. The last two of Blampied's drawings in The Bystander in 1920 were printed in two colours, and all 12 drawings in this period featured women.

At about this time Blampied's brother, John, started acting as his agent for commissions, allowing Edmund to focus on his art and be more productive. But there was a gap in Blampied's work in The Bystander for almost two years, probably because he was working for other publishers designing book dust jackets as well as publishing drypoints and etchings.
