F. Frankfort Moore (1855-1931) was born in Ireland. He worked as a journalist for the Belfast Newsletter from 1876 to 1892. He traveled the world and used the places he visited as the backdrop for his novels. Moore was considered to be an expert on 18th century England. Moore had published a novel called Nell Gwyn - Comedian in 1900, so this may have been a follow up novel.
This book is dated from a list of new volumes in Pearson's 6d novels for 1912 in the back of this title. It is not listed among the new titles so may have been published in 1911. Oxford University has 47 titles in the series issued between 1910 and 1914. The style of the drawing and the signature suggests that it is a very early commission in Blampied's life as an illustrator.
