This is the second of 11 novels with a dust jacket designed by Blampied in the Collection Nelson.
This copy is thought to be the first edition, or at least very early, as it contains the frontispiece, the price is 1 franc 50, and the author and title are printed in gold on the spine. The price increased soon after this was issued, and the frontispiece and gold lettering was dropped, probably for reasons of economy. It was republished many times and editions dated 1948 and 1951 are known, which use the same jacket design.
Amédée Achard (English) (French) (1814-1875) was a prolific French novelist. Belle-Rose was first published by Libraire nouvelle in 1857.
