Egerton Castle (1858-1920) was an author, antiquarian, and swordsman. This novel was first published in 1899 by Methuen.
The jacket design was commissioned by Edwin Chater Jack in a letter to Blampied in Jersey dated 21st November 1916:
We are sending you another book Young April by Egerton Castle. At your convenience please send us a sketch for the cover of this book. It is for the 9d series, same style as The Image in the Sand. I think the book will appeal to you. It would be well to keep the different designs as strikingly different from each other as may be possible.
