Rex [Ellingwood] Beach
Rex Beach (1877-1949) was an American playwright, novelist and Olympic water polo player. This book was first published by Harper and Brothers in the USA in 1912 and then by Hodder & Stoughton in the U.K., but this is a later edition with a new jacket designed by Blampied. It was seen in an album of dust jackets from the publisher which is now in private hands I believe. The date of 1918 is guessed. The story is set in Sicily and involves the Mafia.
