The Man in Ratcatcher

Sapper [pseud of Herman Cyril McNeile]

Herman Cyril McNeile (1888-1937) was a soldier and author who wrote under the name Sapper, given to him by a publisher, Lord Northcliffe. This is a book of short stories. In the year before this book was published he created Bulldog Drummond. The design for the wrapper is only known from Blampied's album of dust jackets.

Notes: This wrapper has not been seen on a copy of the book yet so any details above are taken from copies reported on the internet, which don't give all details. It is not clear that this jacket design was actually used on the wrapper. The only wrapper I have seen features a woman pointing with a man behind her. The motif of a rider of a bucking horse is used on the cover of some editions, mostly blue cloth.
