The Precipice

by Ivan [Aleksandrovich] Goncharov

This is one of five known, and two possible, books in Hodder & Stoughton's Great Russian Fiction Series. They are listed on the rear cover of the jacket of The Little Angel. However the tile on that jacket of The Abyss has been changed to The Precipice. All the other novels were first issued at a price of 2 shillings and 6 pence but this one, according to an advertisement in the Christmas Issue of The Bookman was priced at 6 shillings. The jacket is also different in style and does not advertise the Great Russian Fiction series, so may have been published additionally.

Ivan Goncharov (1812-1891) was a Russian novelist. This novel, The Precipice, was first published in 1869. The name of the translator is not known.
