Small book codes
Codes have been given to J.L. Carr's small books, by type, as follows:
SB, for small book, followed by a letter for the type
- SBD, for small books which are dictionaries
- SBE, for small books of engravings
- SBH, for small books which are histories
- SBX, for small books which are texts
- SBT, for small books which are evangelical tracts
The author or artist is identified by the first three letters of their name in upper case letters unless they are the same, when more letters are given until they are different e.g. THOMAs and THOMPson.
The edition or impression is identified by a serial number, e.g.1. A different impression of an edition is identified by a number after a decimal point e.g. 1.1
Any variant of the same edition is identified by a lower case letter e.g. a, b.

- SBP-CLA3: Third impression of the poems of John Clare
- SBX-BUN2: Second impression of extracts from Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan
- SBE-LAW1: John Lawrence's Picture book, the only edition
- SBH-FLA1: The Territory versus Flaherty, editied by J.L. Carr
- SBT-WOT1: The Young Woman's Old Testament, edited by J.L. Carr
