Jervoise Dudley Smith

This bokplate is for Charles Jevoise Dudley Smith (1895-1915) who died aged 19 y during the First World War serving as 2nd Lieutenant in the Grenadier Guards. He was son of Gerald Dudley Smith and Lady Barbara Smith of Strensham Court, Worcester. He is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial Panel 2, which means that his body was not recovered. He is also commemorated on a memorial in the cloisters at Eton College, his school, and at Strensham War Memorial in Worcestershire.

This bookplate was designed when he was 17 y old. He might have been related to Muriel Anne Dudley Smith who had a WPB bookplate in 1900.
