Memberships

Edmund Blampied was a member of a number of organisations for artists.

He was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter Etchers and Engravers on 8th January, 1920 and was raised to the full Fellowship on 2nd February 1921. There were only 50 full Fellows at that time, all entitled to use the initials R.E. after their name. He served on the Council of the Society for three separate terms of three years. He showed prints at most annual exhibitions between 1920 and 1939. The R.E. still exists as the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers.

Blampied was a member of the less formal Senefelder Club of lithographers and served on their Committee, but I haven't found any records of the Club so I cannot give any dates. He regularly showed lithographs at the Society's annual exhibitions but again, records are sparse.

Blampied's name was put forward to become an Associate of the Royal Academy in January 1934 but he was not succesful.

He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Artists in May 1938 and was then entitled to use the letters R.B.A. after his name.

Blampied was also a life member of the Touring Club de France and the Glasgow Art Gallery and Museums Association.

Touring Club de France

Date: 1936?

Dimensions: 72 x 109 mm

Notes: The Touring Club de France (1890-1983) was a social club for travellers with its Headquarters in Paris. Blampied enjoyed travelling in France and was a life member. His membership number was 517.436 which suggests that he might have joined in 1936. His address is given on the first card as Roland Gardens, South Kensington. In July 1936 he drove with friends from Paris to Innsbruck in Austria, so probably took out membership in Paris before the journey. He must have renewed his membership after the war as the lower card gives his address as Netherby Court, Beaumont,Jersey.
