John Sankey
Although this plate is dated 1918 at the lower right margin, Robert Osmond has added the date 1916 after his signature. John Sankey was created a Judge of the High Court in 1914 and was knighted in the same year. A coat of arms was granted to him by the Heralds College in April 1916 (Jones, 1978), so the date used by Osmond probably reflects when Sankey commissioned the design - as soon as he got his coat of arms.
