Maxine Elliott

This bookplate was designed for the American actress and businesswomen Maxine Elliott. She was born Jessie Dermott in 1868 and adopted the stage name Maxine Elliott. She had houses in the USA, England and France. The panel may show the interior of Hartsbourn Manor in Hertforshire, now a country club and golf course. She was painted in portrait there by Winston Churchill. I wonder if the painting on the wall above the fire is by Churchill? The text may be derived from a story by O. Henry, as I get a partial match.

The number 1 in 1910 is drawn the wrong way round. The plate is dated 1911 at the base while the date below the name is 1910.
