Dr Charles Carpenter
Charles Claude Carpenter (1858-1938) CBE, was President of the South Metropolitan Gas Company (founded 1829) from 1908 after a career as a gas engineer with the same company. He was awarded an Honorary D.Sc. by the University of Leeds in 1912. He was painted in portrait by Gerald Brockhurst in 1925, the same years that this plate was designed. Brockhurst produced an etching of Carpenter in 1931.
